Thank you Netopia!

Written by maloki on July 1st, 2010

I just wrote the following letter to Stephanie Meyer (well her Webmaster):

Hello Seth!
You are a great little brother to help your sister out with the webmastering, and I like the site, so I guess you’re doing a great job at it as well ;)
I read an article (swe) that linked to Midnightsun, and realised that I wasn’t in need to comment the article, I should contact Stephenie, well you in this case, directly.
To cut to the chase I want to introduce a new means of earning some extra pennies on the stuff on it. Which is through a social micropaying system called Flattr, watch this small introduction video on youtube it describes it quite well I think. But basicly through a flatrate fee each month you get to flattr other people’s content, and your fee is split into as many other things you’ve decided to flattr.
To give some examples of the possibilities of it the news site Netzpolitik made €576 in June. And I myself, just being a blogger and general helper online got €15.
The system is still in Beta testing, and you need an invite to join, but I would be glad to offer one if you were interested!
Here is also a list of things I’ve written about Flattr.

I’m hoping you and your sister will concider joining the revolution of how to earn money of your creations online! And that I’ll be the first to Flattr you! :)

Take care

So what basicly happend was that I got linked by a friend to his comment on the Netopia article, that I refered to in the beginning of my letter.
The article itself is basicly bashing Pirates for having released the early draft of Midnightsun. But it got spread from a person she trusted to read this early draft. A comment points out that Pirates aren’t a homogeneous group, and I agree with that. Moving on.
There are other means of making money, but what if, they don’t realise that these business models are out there? I can understand that people are afraid to try new things and what not. Anyhow it resulted in me writing a letter to Stephenie Meyers little brother webmaster instead. Informing him of this new cool thing called Flattr!

Who do you want to Flattr? Write them a letter, feel free to remix what I wrote!

I will end this as I ended my earlier post today

I want to, together with the Flattr-community that we already have and the Pirate and Activist community that I am part of, lead the way by setting a good example and showing that this really works. We are all responsable to help Flattr reach Critical Mass!
